After months of planning we have finally arrived at Ability Camp. Ability camp is located on the North shore of Lake Ontario in scenic Prince Edward County. With Uncle Dave's GPS it was an easy drive. We are in a very rural area known as Milford Ontario. 20 minutes from Pickton. We checked into our small room in the camp yesterday. We have a double bed and a single bed, TV, phone and internet service in our room. I can accept incoming calls at 1-613-476-7332 our room is 107. I have purchased a calling card from the camp owner as my cell phone has no service in this remote area. There are ten families who have arrived for therapy. 2 from Calefornia, 2 from Toronto, 1 from South Hamptom, 1 from Venazuela, 1 from Michigan, 1 from New York and One from Edmonton AB. There is also one adult stroke client arrived named Connie. Connie came to camp with her husband who is a retired vascular surgeon and Connie is a retired nurse. They are both elderly and I am fascinated talking to Brad as he has researched medications and stroke treatments and wants to share information that will be useful for Chris.
Cassie quickly made friends with 10 year old Dre and his Oma from Michigan. Dre is a beautiful, gentle boy with blond hair and blue eyes. His Oma gives him all organic food and his parents opened a restaurant with all Organic food. I am going to ask his Oma a bit more about how they are eating. Dre is off all his medications since going Organic. Cassie spent alot of time with the camp owners daughter Kaitlyn who is 22 and has cerebral palsy. She just graduated from University in Quebec where she took Drama and Music. Cassie was extremely homesick last night but having Kaitlyn hear made it alot better. We are going to start therapy now it is 0800am and I am invited in the classroom all day today so I will try to write again later.
What a nice positive word for the camp name! It sounds like a very good place for young Cassie to be in and I am sure that she will make friends there and will benefit greatly from their programme.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing that people bring their children from such distances to this camp. It speaks to the effectiveness of the camp!
